hum was created by Ellis, a teenager who noticed how many people her age — and younger — are around loud music, concerts, school events, sports, and headphones every day, without ever thinking about what that volume does over time. Hearing protection felt like something teens should use, but usually do not.
Her younger brother helped make the issue feel personal. Her grandmother’s hearing loss showed her how much hearing affects connection, conversation, independence, and everyday life. hum exists to make hearing protection feel normal, stylish, and easy for teens to actually use.
